Green" equals Sustainability.
Sustainability is a critical business focus, it integrates environmental, social and economic considerations. From the project management side, the project manager must ensure that these are covered and managed as part of the project.
During project initiation, planning, execution and control the necessary tasks, milestones and measurements must be included as part of the project plan. It involves a structured approach to managing resources, minimizing negative impacts, and creating positive contributions to society and the environment, while also ensuring economic viability.
What can help to achieve this ?
- Formal training and methodologies e.g.
- GPM® P5™ Standard for Sustainability in Project Management v3.1 is a course supported by PMI.
- PRINCE2 7th edition emphasizes environmental, social, and economic considerations throughout the project lifecycle, aligning projects with organizational sustainability goals and stakeholder expectations. This
- Project objectives
- include defining sustainability performance targets, assessing impacts, and integrating sustainability into project processes and decision-makings
- Stakeholder management and buy-in.
Conclusion:
For certain projects it would be easy as some are initiated to enhance sustainability, e.g. Solar power projects.
The challenge is to include sustainability in the other projects e.g. application development (IT) projects.
