The topic of discussion of the PMI Austria Chapter October 2019 Stammtisch was “
Portfolio, Program and Project Management”.
O
ne of the attendees wanted suggestions / ideas on how to use the Portfolio / Program / Project construct and traditional project management disciplines to manage a telecommunication technology migration of a large number of sites across the country. Three main issues were identified; lack of clarity of the change-over process and components at any of the sites, absence of a reliable / credible schedule for the roll out of new equipment and the contractual relationship with the customer. The consensus was to implement standard templates and procedures for the work required at the change-over sites and obtain feedback accordingly. For the roll-out of the new equipment a project schedule may be developed for a defined number of sites that takes into account the required pre-requisites at each site with the appropriate project management methodology and documentation. Then progress can be monitored against the agreed schedule. The choice of Time and material or fixed price contractual relationship depends on the confidence level of the project scope and project management discipline and processes. The use of Agile may be suitable for change-over components.
Nine attended the Stammtisch that was held at Zum Berger, Himmelstrasse 19, 1190 Vienna, a typical herringer.
