I recently started volunteering with the PMI Austria Chapter, and yesterday I joined my first English Stammtisch in Vienna.The idea is very simple: bring professionals together in an informal setting, have some food, meet new people, and talk about project management 😊.

 

What I particularly liked is that the Stammtisch is in English. Vienna is a very international city, so this makes the event open and welcoming to people from different backgrounds. Yesterday, for example, we had people from Greece, India, Italy, Canada, Ukraine, Iran, Serbia and, of course, Austria, including some real Viennese 😊.

 

And the diversity is not only about nationalities.

 

You get to meet project managers, as well as people working in areas close to project management, from very different industries. Everyone brings different experiences, challenges and ways of working. It is a great opportunity to compare notes and see how other people approach similar problems.

 

After the first part of the evening, where we got to know each other, talked about our backgrounds and ate something delicious, the Stammtisch organizer introduced a topic for everyone to discuss.

 

This time, the topic was AI in project management.

 

Definitely a very current topic! What I found most interesting was hearing how differently people are already using AI and how its use changes depending on the industry, the company and the type of work.

All in all, a great first experience.

 

Fantastic for networking, for learning, and also fantastic for discovering new places to eat in Vienna, since the Stammtisch takes place in a different location every month. 😊
